Banderas Bay Regatta XXI
by Vallarta Yacht Club
March 19-23, 2013
and perhaps the highlight of the entire Mexico adventure

Good winds were predicted
(gotta love Mexican television)

The crew flew down

And Distraction was racing again!

Leeward mark rounding off the beach

It was a bash to windward all 3 days, with our friendly J boat competitors using their one-design class tactics
Our (5) boat fleet consisted of (3) J80s and covering from behind; the fastest tricked-out tall rig/tiller/bowsprit CAT 30 I've ever seen.
All these boats had a pro racer on board

Our windward/leeward (20s something) course was off the windy afternoon thermal/pull area of the bay

Nice deep spin runs, with 22 degree jibe angles.  Leeward mark coming fast, jib unfurled, windward spin take down next

Our only sail inventory was our cruising inventory; the heavy kevlar 2004 Texas main, the 1997 Florida .75 spin,
and the new San Diego LG sails cruising furling dacron #3

The finish of the final race on day 3.  We shared parts of the course with the cruising classes.

A super awards party; and our trophy, on the beach at Paradise Village
